The U.S. Pregnancy After Loss Network was founded by three leading maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) clinical experts and two preterm birth and stillbirth non-profit organization directors. This partnership was born from a shared commitment to improved patient care and data-driven research to support families experiencing pregnancy after loss.

Inspired by the Rainbow Clinics, a model created by Professor Alexander Heazell at the University of Manchester in the UK, clinics that are part of the USPAL Network collaborate to share best practices and raise the standard of care. The first U.S.-based Rainbow Clinic opened at Mount Sinai Hospital under the partnership of Dr. Joanne Stone and her then-patient Fernanda Sheridan. In 2023, Dr. Uma Reddy opened a similar clinic at Columbia University, and in 2024, Dr. Bob Silver opened a clinic at the University of Utah in conjunction with the Utah Stillbirth Center of Excellence (USCOE). In 2025, these three clinics joined together with The Natalie Foundation and The Iris Fund with leadership from the University of Utah Stillbirth Center of Excellence to launch the USPAL Network.
